Keeping flowers fresh involves proper care and attention to ensure they stay vibrant for as long as possible. Here are some tips to help you extend the freshness of your flowers:

Clean Vase:

  • Start with a clean vase to prevent the growth of bacteria. Wash the vase with soap and water before placing the flowers in it.

Fresh Water:

  • Use clean, cool water to fill the vase. Change the water every 2-3 days to keep it fresh and prevent bacterial growth.

Trim the Stems:

  • Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or floral shears. This allows for better water absorption. Trim the stems every few days to maintain a fresh cut.

Remove Foliage:

  • Remove any leaves that will be submerged in water. Foliage in water can promote bacterial growth, leading to a shorter lifespan for the flowers.

Proper Water Level:

  • Fill the vase with enough water to cover the bottom of the stems. Be cautious not to submerge any leaves in the water.

Use Flower Food:

  • If your flowers come with floral preservative or food, use it according to the instructions. These solutions provide essential nutrients and help control bacteria in the water.

Avoid Heat and Direct Sunlight:

  • Keep flowers away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and drafts. Exposure to heat and sunlight can speed up the wilting process.

Cool Environment:

  • Place the flowers in a cool room, especially during the night. Lower temperatures slow down the aging process of flowers.

Regular Check-ups:

  • Regularly check the water level and cleanliness of the vase. Remove any wilted or decaying flowers and adjust the water level as needed.

Change Location:

  • If possible, change the location of the flowers periodically. Moving them to a different spot can prevent them from being exposed to drafts or excessive heat.

Avoid Ethylene Gas:

  • Keep flowers away from fruits and vegetables, as they produce ethylene gas, which can accelerate the aging of flowers.

Rehydrate Drooping Flowers:

  • If flowers start to droop, recut the stems and place them in warm water for a few hours. This can help rehydrate and revive wilted flowers.

By following these tips, you can maximize the freshness and longevity of your flowers, allowing you and your loved ones to enjoy their beauty for an extended period.
